altcom develops Dorset AONB website
altcom has started development of the new Dorset AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) website. The Dorset AONB is one of a family of 52 protected landscapes in England and Wales. They are nationally and internationally important and receive protection to safeguard their special character and qualities. The primary purpose of the designation is to ‘conserve and enhance the natural beauty' of the AONB.
Designated in 1959, the Dorset AONB covers 42% of the County and stretches from Lyme Regis in the West to Poole Harbour in the east. It is a diverse landscape ranging from open chalk downland, intimate river valleys and pastoral farmed vales to internationally important heathlands and a World Heritage coastline.
The Dorset AONB Partnership brings together local authorities, statutory agencies and landowner representatives and has a dedicated team of staff which delivers a range of projects and advises on activities and initiatives in the AONB.
The original website was designed in 2003 in the early days of the Partnership and altcom has been commissioned to develop a content management system website that will allow the Partnership to make better use of the web for communication with the public and other stakeholders, and promote the Dorste AONB more effectively.
The website is due to be live in June 2009.
