Information processing - hgh value report conversion & segmentation

A data consolidation enterprise servicing global information providers had a requirement to detect and extract out headlines, tables and their captions from Microsoft Word™ and text format documents. The software had to run from a Word™ document and be inexpensive to implement and maintain. A VisualBasic™ solution was applied with the code running from within Word. This provided a familiar interface for the operators and minimised training costs.

The objective was to enable the table data to be extracted from reports. In some cases the tables needed to be extracted in one piece; in others only the first few rows were required along with the caption.

The solution saved hundreds of person-hours and substantially increased the client's competitiveness by enabling data to be processed more quickly for less cost.
