Microseismics

Microseismic oid field model

altcom provides global strategic and task based microseismic consultancy.

Our microseismic consultancy and technical services are based on a wealth of experience planning and executing microseismic projects around the world. The technology is still relatively new and there are few people with real hands-on experience of developing and deploying microseismic monitoring, and then interpreting the results. altcom has this experience and is also independent - which means it can provide an objective assessment of the services, equipment and processing required for your project.

Our services cover:

  • Project technical appraisal
  • Preparation of project specifications
  • Report & results review
  • Project planning
  • Vendor appraisal
  • Tender preparation and appraisal
  • Project management
  • Training
  • Data interpretation & integration
  • Preparation of technology development strategies

altcom was formed in 1995 and is led by former managers of the UK Government's Hot Dry Rock (HDR) Geothermal Energy Project and its successors. The UK HDR project was privatised as CSM Associates in the early 1990s and was later taken over by Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) and ultimately Schlumberger in 2004. In 2000 altcom was joined by John Cowles who was International Business Development manager at CSMA and ABB. Dr Andy Jupe joined altcom in early 2004 having led the Geoscience team that developed and commercialised microseismic technology in the oil and gas industry.

Microseismic processing software

altcom started a multi-sponsor microseismic software project called MicroSeisGram in 2007. Aimed at the oil and gas and geothermal industries, the objective was to develop a platform independent microseismic processing and Quality Control (QC) software workbench. The project is part funded by Chevron Technology and is open to multiple industry partners.

Microseismic News and Information

microseis.netIn 2006 altcom launched an online microseismic news and information service, microseis.net. The service provides coverage of the rapidly developing technology of microseismic reservoir monitoring. Its aim is to meet the growing requirement for independent and up-to-date information on microseismic ('passive seismic') R&D, hardware and software, service provision, Intellectual Property, training and field applications. Microseis.net is a subscription service and it operates independently of service providers, operators and research organisations.
