altcom wins clinical trials contract
Altcom has been commissioned to provide a web based application and database to run a major national Phase IV Clinical Trial comparing the effects of two common drugs used in the treatment of Chronic Heart Failure. The whole system will be developed using open source development frameworks and tools, including the Postgres open source database. As part of the project a central Database will be established containing details of three thousand patients studied over the length of the project.
A web based Data Entry system will be created on a secure intranet to allow staff to create and update records. The database will be used to generate automatic mailing lists to participants, for managing call-centre operations and to provide information and reports to assist in the running of the project.
The system will handle scanned documents linked to the patient, GP or Hospital concerned.
A high level of security is required as some personal information will be stored. The database will be held on a secure server and will be accessible only over secure intranet connection to authorised users.
